How to Hire a DJ

Finding the right DJ can be a challenge but if this your first time
hiring a DJ you came to the right space. Here are some helpful
tips for hiring the perfect disc jockey (DJ) for your special event!
Treat this proccess what it is, an interview for a very
important job.
Phone interview: call as many disc jockeys as you can and see how
many DJs return your call. DJs may be plentiful but many may not
be able to handle or may not be interested in your type of an event.
Ask each DJ if they can accomodate the type of event you are
planning with the styles of music you and your guests will enjoy.
If your event has more than 200 guests, make the DJ's sound system
is powerful enough to handle the room size for your special event.
Narrow down your search to the three disc jockeys with the most
experience, the best value, the best overall fit for your event.
Request three references and call all three of each of your top
three DJs you have selected. Customers who have hired a DJ will
have useful feedback about their experiences.
Request a contract from your top three disc jockeys you have
selected and read it carefully. DJs will also require a deposit
in order to secure the date with them.
In person interview: meet the top three disc jockeys and ask
each questions about how they will handle the details of your
special event. Go over the contract with the DJ and the details
about their set up requirements. Make sure the DJ you meet is
the DJ performing at your party or wedding! Be sure and ask to
see the DJ's music library, and his/ her level of commitment
to be on time
Keep in mind that an experienced DJ will be worth his weight
in gold when something unexpected happens. Most corporate party
or wedding planners spend more of their budget on food or
catering than on the DJ. But if you have a bad or average meal
it does not have the same effect on the party or wedding as a
bad or average DJ!
Book early. A top notch D.J. may need to be booked 3 to 9
months in advance, especially if you're looking for the DJ to
also serve as MC or Master of Ceremonies. Your MC can make all
of the formal announcements and keep the flow of your party or
wedding moving at a good pace to avoid your guests being bored.
Follow up with your DJ / MC one week prior and as often as
you need to. Don't be shy about making sure your disc jockey
knows exactly what you want.
